Sometimes I wonder how people hear about me? I usually ask if they are new clients, but I forgot to ask this family & I remember mid-session thinking…”they are used to traditional/in the box photography.” Ha! Well…boy were they up for a surprise & challenge working with me. On the flip-side, I too, was challenged, but in a good way. It’s not everyday I work with families full of teenagers. Typically I have younger families (which I love because I get to grow with them.;)) So, needless to say, since they were majority of teen boys; they were less than thrilled to be there. LOL!!! I may have tortured them with my crazy/left-brained ideas. Truthfully, I was just doing ME. Even though there was resistance, I kept on smiling, laughing (mostly nervously laughing) & did my thing like I would with any other session. I don’t leave people hanging…I give direction with a general sense of what I’m looking for & then I let everyone loose…to “do you.” I learned quickly that movement is key in working with older kids. Yes, it may require a stretch of the imagination on their end & maybe more repetition than I like on my end…but all in all…we ended up with gorgeous lifestyle family photos. PLUS…sunset & check out stunning MAMA bear. It also helped to have 1 little sweet angel baby to put the focus on. Yay!!! Take a peek at a session that really stretched me mentally…

Sooooo behind on editing ya’ll…please bare with me. Trying to play catch up & at least highlight my favorite sessions from 2018. (Which is really hard to do because I have a lot). THIS family brings me so much JOY! They always show up with a positive attitude & smiles on their faces. Rebecca is an amazing mom who would do ANYTHING for her kids. I love hearing of their latest trips, sporting events, dance competitions & everyday life when I meet up with them annually. There is always ADVENTURE to be had & these guys are all about it. I love planning each session with Rebecca in advance to see what creative location or idea we can come up with next. She is all about Lifestyle…which I love because not everyone fully appreciates or understands it completely.;) Last late Summer we met up at Garden of the Gods & I chose a different part of the park I’ve never shot at before & I absolutely fell in love with it. It brought new perspective, a good challenge with lighting & it made me sweat up a storm as I recall.;) LOL!!! Here’s a peek at their fabulous session…

{The Winters Family} Colorado Springs Lifestyle Family Photographer

When I found out the Winters Family was being re-located to Hawaii I felt 2 immediate emotions: sad & jealous.;) Sad because they were leaving me (some of my favorite clients) & Jealous because—DUH—Hawaii. LOL!!! They did however; promise to hit me up when visiting back to the mainland. It has been fun for me to follow along on their island adventures via Instagram though. EVERY SINGLE DAY LOOKS LIKE VACATION. So lucky! What a great place to live & raise those beautiful daughters of theirs. Before they left Colorado they requested one last family session showcasing what we are most known for…our beautiful mountains along with the Garden of the Gods. How could I say no?!;) So we met on a warm, somewhat overcast late spring/early summer evening on Mesa Rd. I had a wonderful time capturing this family just as they are…loving, sweet, genuine. Take a peek…

{The Smith Family} Colorado Springs Family Lifestyle Photographer

Spring is always unpredictable in Colorado, but I’m thankful for patient & understanding clients, like the Smith Family, who had to reschedule 3 times before we got it right. Third time’s a charm.;) These guys are amazing & have been coming to see me for a long time (since their oldest, Kendyl, was a newborn). It’s so fun to watch my return families change & grow.

I like to keep things fresh since I have annual return clients, so we try to choose new locations that are suiting for the season as well as the stage/age of their kids. Colorado College Campus is always a great spot because I love the architecture there…the fabulous arches, the steps, the wood doors on Shove Memorial Chapel as well as the detailed lights that line the sidewalks.

I love the colors that Julie chose…not only did they coordinate well with this location, but they were perfect for Spring. Take a peek at their urban session…

“What should I bring to our session?” is one of the most common questions I get asked & the real answer is…an open mind, a smile & trust. Giving me free reign during a session is like letting my creative Free Spirit SOAR!!! I love when someone e-mails me & says…we trust you because we know you are going to give us a beautiful outcome no matter what. Thank you! That means the world to me. I don’t want you to show up stressed out, crabby & short-tempered with your kids. Leave it to me to produce the authentic smiles, the real emotion, the connection you should have as a family. We will play games, ask questions, explore, etc. So show up with a good attitude, a smile, and trust me to do my job because I love it & that’s what I get paid to do. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Why am I talking about that before posting about this particular session? Because I remember the rapport I had almost immediately with this new, young family. They were worried about their little doll-face not smiling & having boogery-boogers because she had just woke up from a nap & was recovering from a cold still lingering. As moms, we’ve all been there. I totally understand, but I also have worked with kids for 10 years now, not to mention my own & TONS of nieces/nephews…I know it takes time to warm up, wake up & even if you don’t get THE PERECT SMILE…I promise, you will still LOVE your pictures! You know why? Because you will always look back & remember that your little doll-face was recovering from a cold & gave us funny & adorable expressions. You will remember how little she was, you’ll ooh & aah over her curls & round, pink cheeks. You’ll remember what a lovely Spring Day it was & nothing else will matter.

I absolutely ADORED this family & I really, really, really hope they come back & see me this Spring because I would die to squeeze this munckin’’s face again. Take a peek at our session together…it’ll forever be a Spring Favorite. =)

This was such a sweet & simple Spring session. I suggested Mnt. Herman Rd. because it’s a beautiful location & has always been a favorite of mine. I remember when MOM (yes, I have a terrible memory & it just helps me to call my clients “Mom” & “Dad”—this is something you should know about me for sure.;)) contacted me about setting up this shoot & requesting it ASAP as her hubby was getting deployed again. I cannot tell you how much I admire these resilient military families. It takes such grit & courage. Especially when mom or dad has to single parent while their spouse is deployed. WOW! Pretty sure I couldn’t do it. I absolutely adored their young boys who were so, so cute! Check out their sunny afternoon Spring session with me…

{The May Family}--Colorado Springs Family Lifestyle Photographer

I absolutely adore this sweet family of 6. For many years, it was boys, boys, boys & then surprise…they added a girl to the mix. So happy for them!!! =) I love how protective, gentle & caring all of these brothers are of their baby sister. She’s got it made, right?! This was a gorgeous Spring day…I remember just standing in this open space before my clients arrived, letting the warm sun fall on my face & thanking the Lord for his many blessings. Wildflowers were blooming, dog-walkers were out getting exercise, I was in my happy place with my camera in hand. Everything in the world seemed right.

We played a lot of fun games during this session to keep the boys entertained, but also got some sweet girly moments between mother & daughter. So happy they trusted me with this new found location because it just made me so happy & we got a beautiful sunset at the very end. Enjoy a peek at our time together.

I love that this family wanted an urban session...a little mix up from the typical rural session. They chose to meet me down at Colorado College Campus, which is always a good choice in my opinion. This campus is filled with great architecture, unique wood doors, light strolled sidewalks, etc. I'm always anxious to see what sweet little Jane is going to show up in. On this fun fall morning she surprised me with the cutest darn cowboy boots...oh my stars!!! Love all her 2yr. old energy. Take a peek at our morning together...

Fall is one of my favorite seasons to shoot & definitely amongst the most popular with my clients. In fact, if you are stalking my blog for ideas & thinking about booking me for a Fall session, you might want to make sure you schedule at least 2 months out from the date you want. Think of me like a hairdresser.;) This location became one of my most requested throughout Fall especially with my military families or families who happen to be moving away. Of course, I can clearly understand why...it has amazing front range views of the mountains, pikes peak as well as Garden of the Gods. What's not to love? This family were new clients to me & though we had just met; I felt as though I had known them forever. So great to work with, personable, easy to talk to & their boys were darling and sweet. Mom nailed everyone's wardrobe...colors were on point. We played games, jumped on crunchy leaves, laughed and made magic that evening on the hillside. Take a peek...

Recognize this family? You should. I post them every year & have been for 9 years. They were my original paying clients. Love this family. I used to attend MOPS with Suzy & happen to know she's a fabulous wife & mom to these 3 boys (yes, her two sons & her hubby.;)) This session she toughed it out with me as I required her to climb to the top of Pulpit Rock & she did it in a dress ya'll. She's amazing; I'm telling you firsthand!!! Her hubby was smart enough to tell her to bring her tennis shoes for the hike up at least. Phew!;) It was a beautiful fall evening & we were blessed with the most amazing sunset too. Lucky us! I have loved capturing this family and watching her boys grow taller year after year. Pretty sure her oldest is gonna pass her up in the next session..or is pretty close at least.;) Where does time go? Here's a peek at their fabulous session...

*You should also take note (if you scroll through the entire session...towards the bottom) there is a traditional picture that is always requested by dad. He lifts both boys off the ground (1 in each arm) to which I start busting up laughing because each year these boys get bigger & heavier. One of these days, this request will get forgotten.;) (intentionally no doubt). Ha-ha-ha!!!

{The Johnson Family} Colorado Springs Lifestyle Family Photographer

So I may have ooohed & aaahed over Lisa (aka: Mom's) dress when she got out of her car. Literally. I loved it & then as her family began to disembark...I was freaking out...everyone looked AMAZING!!! Like spot on! I get sooo excited about fashion & when I family shows up so well put together, I MIGHT make a big deal out of it.;) This evening was memorable for several reasons. 1.) We just covered it.;) 2.) Their was a planned proposal at the Nature & Discovery Center the night we shot their session. I remember because their were two other photogs trying to capture it secretly for this young man & it just so happen to be sooooo very busy, that the soon to be fiance' was irritated they couldn't find a spot to be "alone." LOL!!! We tried to stay out of the way as much as possible, but there are only so many places to go (if you've ever been here, you'll know what I mean). Anyway...he was eventually able to pop the question because we saw them again on the way out & his fiance' was beaming ear to ear and looking at her ring!!! I have such a fun job...I get to witness all kinds of craziness out and about in this world.

BUT...back to the Johnson Family. They rocked their session from start to finish. Check it out...

Rebecca, Grant & Ally have been loyal clients of mine for as long as I can remember. Every year we rack our brains for something new, exciting & lifestyle. This session we both decided the Paint Mines out east was the perfect spot. Unfortunately, the first time around didn't work out so well. We totally got rained out!!! =( So, we rescheduled & the second time was the charm. It was a perfect September evening, perfect temperature, perfect amount of light & did I mention perfect wardrobe!?! Rebecca always does an amazing job picking out everyone's outfits for their sessions. They coordinated & complimented the hues/shades of the Paint Mines just beautifully. We had a blast hiking the rocks...way up high, way down low & way deep into some of the cool caves to be discovered. Though it was busy, we were able to weave in/out of other visitors & I was able to capture their adventures, connections & personalities. If you want to shoot your family at this fabulous location, JUST ASK. It's a little bit of a drive, but I promise you, IT IS WORTH IT (especially if you've never been). Such a cool place not many know about!!! Take a peek...

{The Crutchley Family} Colorado Springs Lifestyle Family Photographer

This little red-headed family hold a special place in my heart. I look forward to working with them every Fall. They are so easy to work with & so darn photogenic. I always try & mix up the location for them. This year, (or rather last...b/c I'm behind on blogging) we ended up at Mnt. Herman Dog Pond. Love this spot...it's so unique &  has that Colorado feel to it...with the white giant sandstone rock, tall pines, mountain backdrop & dog pond. I love that they chose dark green for their colors; it was such a good contrast against the light sandstone rock. Fall will be here again before we know it. If we can just get out of yucky SPRING first.;) Enjoy a peek at our amazing session together...

{The Hayman Family} Colorado Springs Lifestyle Family Photographer

Yep...my blogging is all out of order these days, cause when you get as far behind as I have...you just do your best to catch up with some of your favorite sessions! =) This family session is by far no exception. I loved working with the adorable, carefree & beautiful Hayman Family. They brought so much sunshine & smiles to their session I cannot even begin to tell you. This was late last September & it was a gorgeous Colorado evening. We met at one of my favorite spots that really shows off GOTG & the entire front range quite well...in fact, it's become a very requested spot (in part due to this session). I'm gonna let the pictures speak for themselves here...no need to ramble on with silly facts. Enjoy a peek...

{The McWilliams Family} Colorado Springs Lifestyle Family Photographer

This session was a bit of challenge for so many reasons, but you would NEVER know it looking at the photos. We were dealing with crazy amounts of wind, a spunky & strong-willed toddler & busy biking trails. All I could do was laugh it off & keep clicking. I was thankful for a beautiful sunset, relaxed clients & my trigger-happy finger.;) I love this family & they've loyally been using me as their family photographer since Kylie (their youngest was less than a year old). Needless to say, I'm thankful they're patient and understanding. Palmer Park is a fabulous location as far as mountain views, but I always try & warn everyone in advance about the crazy amounts of cactus & yucca plants. OUCH!!! Where tennis shoes or don't move.;) Ha! Enjoy a peek at a whirlwind session...literally.

{The Thompson Family} Colorado Springs Lifestyle Family Photographer

Fox Run Park is an interesting location to me...it can convey so many different feelings. This was a summer session, so it came across warm, dreamy, whimsical. But I have shot here many times in the winter & it can feel big, mysterious, magical. Those pines feel twice as tall in the winter covered in a dusting of snow. I like that it has so many different characteristics that it beckons me & challenges me.

Anywhooo...lots of rambling today. This family was so cute & easy to photograph. They just allowed me to give a little instruction but were so free-spirited & in just being themselves, I found them a delight to photograph. The pictures & the love speak for themselves. Take a peek...

{The Jewett Family} Colorado Springs Lifestyle Family Photographer

Sometimes in life you get inspired. That's exactly what happened when I began planning the Jewett Family Photoshoot. Carrie, who happens to be a very close friend of mine, loves VW Vans...I mean LOVES them!!! So about six months prior to this session, I called her up & explained my vision. She was immediately on-board & began researching, plotting & planning how to get or rather borrow a VW Van. Once she pinned one down to rent for her session, I began plotting & planning: location, wardrobe & ideas. Together we collaborated beautifully and it couldn't have gone better in my opinion. The session went off without a hitch. Weather, including sunset was amazing, family looked top-notch, VW Van sparkled & mountain backdrop was to die for. Our theme was kind of beachy vibe in the mountains. I don't do a lot of styled sessions, but when they are friends, I make an exception.;) Take a peek at this gorgeous family...

{The Piano Family} Colorado Springs Lifestyle Family Photographer

I met the darling Piano Family at Larkspur Park in--- you guessed it, Larkspur. This was my first time meeting this family & I instantly crushed on them. So many different personalities from this big family, I loved it!!! Everyone was amazing to work with from the oldest to youngest. We had a fabulous time together & I recall the weather being absolutely perfect. This was on a random day we scheduled after we had received weeks of rain in July. I remember both of us commenting on how we completely lucked out...sun was shining, skies were blue & I'm fairly certain I heard birds singing.;) Take a peek at their dreamy session...

{The Vrooman Family} Colorado Springs Lifestyle Family Photographer

This cute little fam were all sunshine & roses. We enjoyed a free-spirit kind of morning frolicking at the park in the sunshine, avoiding puddles (since little guy was wearing white), playing hide & seek, 1,2,3 swing & other games. I loved capturing them interacting as a family of three...such doting parents with their son's every curiosity & request; seriously the sweetest. i love capturing families of three. I realize it is such a fleeting stage for most (as it was only 19 months for my husband & I). So brief & so tender...definitely a favorite stage to reflect back on. Enjoy a peek at our morning together underneath the willow trees...

{The Hammond Family} Colorado Springs Lifestyle Family Photographer

Those of you who have scheduled a session with me before, know that I have a "nerdy notebook" where I sketch out stick drawings due to my poor memory. Well, this session was no different in that I came prepared; however, often times with "littles" I find that I throw my sketch book to the way side & just SHOOT. I literally roll with the punches, make up games as I go & occasionally dance like a monkey!;) But I am so thankful in the long run when I look back...because these are the pictures that tell a story & relate that real emotion in a child or love in a mother. You can plan for these...you just merely capture them as they unfold. I am so lucky that I get to do what I do. I truly am passionate about this thing called life & relationship connections. The Hammond Sibling Trio is pure magic...check them out on this sunny summer morning!!!
